When Thoughts become Dreams

RELAX !!! After a “fall” summer: relax. Autumn between Marche and Umbria is a wonderful period to prepare a fall winter. A wonderful landscape outside: a wonderful Jacuzzi and Finnish sauna inside. Our villa is simply the best for your relaxing holiday. Le Perelle, simply the best !!!

Take Le Marche, the green and pleasant region of Italy located halfway up the country’s eastern, Adriatic shore. Do we refer to it in English, as “The Marches”? Do we call it plain “Marche”, half of its official title, Regione Marche? Or do we simply leave it in standard Italian, as “Le Marche” ?

It’s not important the name: this Region is a flower, beautiful like our garden

Flavors of Le Marche

Today we speak about Verdicchio: “the more red of white wines”

Verdicchio is arguably Italy’s greatest native white grape variety. Grown in the hillsides of north-central and western Le Marche, Verdicchio is used to produce a variety of wines, from metodo classico to passito and, in between, some of the longest-lived dry whites found in Italy. The characteristics of these wine is quite varied, thanks to a series of factors including soil, climate and elevation. You can taste with fish, vegetables, but also meat and especially with Fabriano’s Salame DOP (another excellence of our area): this the reason why is named “the more red of white wines”.

There are two DOC zones for Verdicchio in Marche: Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, the more famous of the two, and Verdicchio di Matelica. Sassoferrato is situated in the middle: the third valley close to the Apennines, near the border with Umbria.

In its 2015 Italian wine guide, Gambero Rosso awarded its highest rating of 3 Bicchieri (3 Glasses) to 11 examples of Verdicchio – more than any other white in the country.
